“Stop supporting animal slaughter for fashion,” Peta activist tells Pharrell Williams

An animal rights activist briefly interrupted the screening of Pharrell Williams’ film at the Toronto Film Festival on Tuesday.

An activist from the animal rights group Peta (For the Ethical Treatment of Animals) burst onto the stage Tuesday at the Toronto Film Festival, where Pharrell Williams was presenting his autobiographical film, Piece by piece.

Holding up a sign that read “Pharrell: Stop supporting the slaughter of animals for fashion,” the young woman was quickly pushed aside, and Pharrell Williams made her applaud by shouting “god bless you.”

“Opt for alternatives”

Then, addressing the audience, the musician and artistic director at LVMH launched:

“Rome wasn’t built in a day. And sometimes when you intend to change things and situations, you have to put yourself in a position of power and influence that allows you to change things.”

The scene was filmed and shared on social media.

“We crashed @pharrell’s @piecebypiece premiere at @tiff_net to remind @louisvuitton’s creative director that animals suffer for fur and wildlife hides,” Peta wrote on its Instagram account.

“Do the right thing and opt for fake and vegan alternatives now.”

The association is accustomed to this kind of intervention and regularly takes part in fashion shows to protest against the use of leather and fur in the fashion industry.

Piece by piece is a Lego biopic about Pharrell Williams directed by documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville. This feature-length film evokes the journey of the artist, singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer and fashion designer, currently creative director man at Louis Vuitton.

In addition to Pharrell Williams, the film will also feature other music stars in Lego form such as Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, Busta Rhymes, Timbaland and more. Kendrick Lamar.
