Alexander McQueen’s protégé
Passionate about the world of art, Sarah Heard abandoned her plan to study Fine Arts at Ruskin College in Oxford to pursue fashion design by joining the ranks of the highly renowned Central Saint Martins in London. In her third year, a professor recommended her to the studio of designer Alexander McQueen, who would trust her for an internship of several months. It was there that she would make her first wedding dress, at only twenty years old. At the end of her studies, she was hired by the British fashion house and established herself as a key figure there. She was appointed director of the ready-to-wear design studio in 2000 and quickly became the British designer’s right-hand woman. She considered him a mentor, as well as her successor. After his suicide in February 2010, she naturally took over the reins of the house. She would hold her position for thirteen years, before announcing her departure in September 2023. On September 9, 2024, after a year of absence, Givenchy announced her arrival as artistic director. Before her, her mentor had held the position between 1996 and 2001. A symbolic coincidence.
