“Low cost, failed casting”: Benjamin Castaldi once again criticizes the new version of “Secret Story” on TF1

After a seven-year absence, “Secret Story” signed its return in spring 2024 on TF1. Christophe Beaugrand took over the reins of the show where he had succeeded Benjamin Castaldi as presenter in 2015. The latter was invited by Jordan de Luxe, on Tuesday, August 27 on C8, to give his opinion on this return of the reality TV show of confinement. And as he had done from the set of “Touche pas à mon poste” last April, he did not mince his words to describe season 12 as “Secret Story”.

“It’s not the ‘Secret Story’ of before…”: Benjamin Castaldi very critical of season 12 of the TF1 show

“I didn’t watch it, I found it quite poorly done. The casting is quite bad and overall, it was a cheap and low cost version of ‘Secret Story’… If it had been offered to me, I wouldn’t have done it!”he said. The host of “La piscine de Jordan de Luxe” then tried to find out what he meant by “a cheap version”.

“There is no more daily, it is no longer the ‘Secret Story’ of before… It’s a shame! It’s low cost… I have always preferred to travel in first class rather than in economy class…”
replied the new host of the Europe 2 morning show. Jordan de Luxe was quick to ask him what he thought of Christophe Beaugrand when he presented the show.

“Christophe Beaugrand does his job very well”

When asked whether this had been “also in economy class”Benjamin Castaldi responded negatively. “Christophe Beaugrand does his job very well. Why do they always want to pit me against him?! When I announced to TF1 that I was going to stop ‘Secret Story’, I was the first to say: ‘The one you should take to take my place is Christophe Beaugrand!’he said.

Benjamin Castaldi was then invited to comment on the ratings achieved by season 12 of “Secret Story”. “Well, they did 10% on average, between 700,000 and 1,015,000 viewers… It’s not bad, but it’s not great… And 20% housewives (FRDA-50, a target very favored by advertisers, editor’s note)…”decided the man who, after leaving the TF1 reality TV show, was the host of “Nouvelle Star”, then a columnist for Cyril Hanouna in “Touche pas à mon poste” on C8.
