Fourteen years after the end of the series, Adrian Monk and his acolytes are making their big comeback on TF1 this Wednesday, September 4 at 9:10 p.m. In the new TV movie called Monk, the return (The last case in English), the detective with many OCDs is in the midst of depression due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While he has lost his taste for life, he will have to return to service for his stepdaughter Molly. The latter’s fiancé has died. This special reunion film, first broadcast in December 2023 on Peacock, had met with some success among viewers. Can we then hope for a sequel?
While this new installment has all the makings of a conclusion, particularly by its title in the original version, Tony Shalhoub hinted that another TV movie was possible. “We don’t know yet if there will be others, but that’s Andy Breckman’s wish [le créateur] “, the Monk actor said on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, published last May. There are no specific plans at the moment, but the actor says he won’t object “if it’s the right time, the right idea and the right material.” The showrunner, for his part, confirmed to Deadline that he is ready to “explore another chapter” that he sees as his “retirement plan.”
