Has the final deadline for completing the work on the Grand Stade de Tangier expired? This is the question of the day in sporting circles.
In fact, there is an agreement between the company responsible for the development and expansion of the complex and SONARGES regarding the date of completion of the redevelopment task.
This week, Mr. Younes Tazi, Wali of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, made a field visit to the Grand Stade de Tangier, where he chaired a meeting with the companies responsible for carrying out the work, in the framework for monitoring major development projects in the city.
During the meeting, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the prolonged delay in the execution of some works related to the rehabilitation of the stadium, stressing the need to strictly adhere to the schedule set for the completion of the works.
He stressed that the Grand Stade de Tangier is one of the main sports facilities that will host the matches of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be organized in partnership between Morocco, Spain and Portugal, and is expected to host the one of the semi-finals.
He also stressed the importance of preparing the stadium to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations matches.
The Wali also spoke of the need to quickly remedy delays and respect the highest required quality standards, warning that the competent authorities will take the necessary legal measures against any party that has failed to fulfill its obligations.
He explained that the project enjoys royal patronage, which imposes the need for all stakeholders involved to work seriously to achieve the completion of all works on time and to the required specifications.
Finally, he concluded the meeting by calling for the strengthening of coordination between the parties concerned, noting that the Grand Stade de Tangier which is one of the most important sports facilities in Morocco will contribute to the economic and tourist development of the region, by more of its central role in supporting the national sporting infrastructure.
