Around twenty nude drawings by Yves Saint Laurent will be offered in January during an auction of works of art and objects from the private collection of the late couturier and his partner Pierre Bergé, the house announced Sotheby’s. Titled Yves Saint Laurent – Pierre Bergé : an intimate collectionthis sale will take place online from January 21 to 30, a period which coincides with Paris Men’s Fashion Week.
These drawings « mix precise anatomical details and lascivious poetry (…) which allow you to dive into the inner universe of Yves Saint Laurent »detailed the auction house in a press release. « This is the first time that such a set has been offered at auction »Florent Jeanniard, vice-president of Sotheby’s France, told AFP.

All the drawings were certified by the Yves Saint Laurent – Authentication committee, specifically created to verify the authenticity of Yves Saint-Laurent’s graphic works, said the manager. In addition to these nudes, the sale includes a selection of works of art acquired by the couple from the Kugel gallery, including a porcelain medallion from the Empire period (1810-1815) representing the profile of a Roman soldier.
Other highlights of this collection include photographs by Andy Warhol, Helmut Newton, Alice Springs and Martine Barrat. Several Polaroid portraits of Warhol, including that of a shirtless Pierre Bergé, are notably part of the lot. Put up for sale with a portrait of Yves Saint Laurent, the lot is estimated between 4,000 and 6,000 euros. All works of art will be exhibited during the auction at the Parisian premises of Sotheby’s, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.
