Villefranche-de-Rouergue. The show “La Foire de Madrid” at the Théâtre des Bastides

On Sunday January 26 at 4 p.m., the Théâtre des Bastides will take on the colors of the Spanish Golden Age. It will be possible to attend the “Madrid Fair”, a ritual event in Madrid at the end of the 16th century.

Ronan Rivière staged this famous tragicomedy by Lope de Vega (one of the great Spanish authors, considered a precursor of Molière), in a very suggestive scenography, with seven actors in period costume and a pianist who will captivate sure to please the spectators with compositions by Manuel de Falla. Everything has been designed to evoke magnificent paintings from the same period. “So for two days and two nights we are going to follow a group of young people who stroll and parade through this fair but, at night, the atmosphere changes and intrigues take shape like that of Leandro and Violante… But, shush! Let’s stay in the mystery…” Ronan Rivière, director and actor, has already made the acquaintance of the Villefranchois with Gogol’s Le Revizor, as a great fan of Russian authors but here, it is by a Spanish author which he pays tribute with great success in , at the Lucernaire, where this piece was performed for several weeks or at the Festival, at the Théâtre du Balcon.
