In Quimper, the Japan Manga Wave, a major event for Japanese culture, is back for its second edition

On Saturday February 15 and Sunday February 16, the Exhibition Center will be transformed into a true temple of Japanese culture with the second edition of the Japan Manga Wave. After an initial success which attracted more than 12,000 visitors, the event is back even stronger, with activities for all ages and exclusive surprises.

1 Headliners not to be missed

This year, the organizers pulled out all the stops with prestigious guests. Hiroki Takahashi, famous for his interpretations of Dragon Ball Z theme songs, will take the stage for a unique concert. Dubbing fans will also have the opportunity to meet Arthur Pestel (“Fullmetal Alchemist”) and Julien Kramer, emblematic figures of the industry.

  • 2 Total immersion in Japanese culture

The program for this edition offers a varied and immersive dive into the Japanese universe. Lovers of arts and creativity can learn about traditional calligraphy, compose floral arrangements with ikebana (Japanese floral art), or even create Poké Balls, inspired by the emblematic “Pokémon” universe. Martial arts demonstrations, cosplay competitions and interactive workshops will provide captivating moments for enthusiasts and the curious.

A large area of 700 m² will be devoted to gaming, combining tournaments on popular games like Fortnite and Super Smash Bros, immersive experiences in virtual reality, and a retro-gaming section allowing you to rediscover emblematic consoles from the 1980s to 2000. Karaoke will complete this offer by allowing visitors to perform the theme songs of anime that have marked generations.

  • 3 An event for everyone

“The spirit of the show is intergenerational. We want to create moments of exchange and pleasure between parents, children and grandparents,” explains Christophe Tran, commercial director of the event. Faithful to this vision, the Japan Manga Wave aims to make culture accessible. Thus, entry is free for children under 6 years old, seniors over 65 years old, and people with disabilities (upon presentation of proof). Students will benefit from reduced rates.

Tickets are already available for pre-sale (€10 one day, €15 both) until Wednesday February 12. Visitors who book in advance will receive an exclusive gift: an Omamori, a Japanese lucky charm, different from the one from the previous year.

  • 4 A unique exhibitor village

Covering 6,000 m2, the exhibitors’ village will bring together illustrators, artisans and merchants of derivative products. This year, a particular emphasis is placed on French craftsmanship inspired by Japanese culture. Magnificent handcrafted creations, exclusive figurines and everyday objects revisiting Japanese aesthetics will be discovered.
