This false romance lasted almost a year and a half. The victim, a 53-year-old interior designer, filed a complaint.
“My love, I promise to love you forever. Will you marry me?” These are the words received by Anne, a 53-year-old woman and mother currently living on Reunion Island. For her, this message did not come from just anyone, but from the famous actor Brad Pitt, with whom she had been thinking of talking for almost a year and a half, the channel revealed TF1 during his broadcast Seven to eight, broadcast Sunday evening.
In reality, Anne had been talking all this time with a crook who managed to extract a large sum of money from her: 830,000 euros. The victim, an interior designer, decided to file a complaint and open an online fundraiser in order to pay his legal fees. He has 40,000 euros left aside.
“He knew how to talk to women”
To understand how the fifty-year-old got there, we have to go back to February 2023 when Anne was on ski vacation in Tignes. She decides to register on the networks and creates an Instagram account. After posting photos of her winter stay, Anne is contacted by a fake account of Jane Etta Pitt, the mother of the Hollywood star. The next day, a profile pretending to be Brad Pitt also contacted her, telling her that her mother had spoken to him a lot about her, she testified on the microphone of our colleagues. One thing led to another and a relationship was born with the victim who naively fell into the trap.
The famous Brad Pitt regularly sent love poems to Anne and seemed interested in her work, unlike her husband, according to her. They ultimately end up getting divorced. The “two lovers” can finally live out their love story. At least, that’s what the mother thought. “I loved the man I spoke withshe confides. He knew how to talk to women.” To gain his trust, the scammer sent him fake photos of Brad Pitt and even false proof of his identity such as a photocopy of his passport. “There are so few men who write you this kind of thing”she explains while reading the messages provided with declarations of love.
Suicide attempts
Quickly, the exchanges took a different turn and the scammer behind this fake account made Anne believe that he was hospitalized. After divorcing her husband, she received a compensatory benefit of 775,000 euros, a payment of which she had informed the scammer. “Brad Pitt” then asks him for money to treat alleged kidney cancer. 60,000 euros were requested for bowel cleansing. Anne is then asked to transfer this sum to an account in Türkiye but she suspects nothing. “Without you I see no reason to stay alive”the crook had implored.
For several months, Anne sent several large sums of money. She sometimes asks herself questions, but the thug always manages to reassure her. It is finally during the summer of 2024, when the “real” Brad Pitt appears with his current partner Inès de Ramon, that Anne finally realizes the deception into which she has fallen. After attempting suicide three times, the fifty-year-old was hospitalized in a clinic specializing in serious depression, reports TF1.
