In Marseille, the Friche la Belle de Mai will take on the appearance of cirque all this weekend to launch the 2025 edition of the Biac, the International Biennial of Circus Arts. The performances will continue this Saturday and Sunday January 11 and 12 with the creation “Rouge Merveille”, a aerobatics show breathtaking by the Rhizome company, “Looking for” by the Allégorie company which plays with bodies and objects, “Feu” by Fanny Alvarez, halfway between a race, a concert and an energetic sporting performance.. .
A program between contortion and tightrope walking for Biac
The shows for this inaugural weekend also promise “Passages”, by the contortionist Alice Rende, a loyal Biac artist who will also perform her show “Fora”, in several venues in the Paca region. Also worth discovering is “Soka tira osoa” by the Basinga company, a striking tightrope walker number… or, not to be missed in world premiereCircus baobab which presents its creation “Yongoyély”, a committed show which pays tribute to African women and brings together dances, lifts and acrobatic figures.
A month of circus in Paca
From January 9 to February 9, Biac programs 66 spectaclesincluding 15 creations, for a total of more than 230 performances. The 2023 edition welcomed some 100,000 spectators to the four corners of the Paca region. This year again, the circus is coming to Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, but also to Château-Arnoux (04), La Seyne-Sur-Mer (83), Cannes (06) and La Tour d’Aigues ( 84) and L’Argentière La Bessée (05).
The other highlight of the Biac will take place from January 16 to February 8, on the beaches of Prado which will host four marquees and six performances of Chinese pole, knife throwing and other acrobatic acts. Finally, not to be missed on February 9 on the Canebière, in Marseille, the pein-air show “Naïade”: preamble, by the company Out of the blue, which features four circus artists in a poetic exploration of apnea.
