Stormzy, caught with a phone while driving, is deprived of his license

Rapper Stormzy is deprived of his driving license for 9 months, after being sentenced Thursday by British courts for making a phone call while driving his Rolls-Royce in London in March 2024.

The judge accused the 31-year-old rapper – who was seen last summer at Gurtenfestival – of “dangerous and irresponsible” driving, before announcing the suspension of his license and a fine of 2,010 pounds sterling (2,365 Swiss francs).

Stormzy, real name Michael Ebenazer Owuo Junior, was arrested on March 7 in broad daylight in the upscale neighborhood of Kensington. An undercover officer knocked on his tinted window and told him: “Get rid of the tinted windows and put down your phone,” Wimbledon Magistrates Court, southwest London, was told.

The rapper was also arrested on October 17, 2023, this time behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Urus, whose tinted front windows only allowed 4% of light to pass through, far from the required 70%. He had already received warnings about this.

The rapper, who pleaded guilty and was not present at the hearing, is aware of his responsibility and apologizes, said his lawyer, Peter Csemiczky. Stormzy also removed his tinted windows, he said.
