The American actress (Pearl Harbor, A love in New York) has just denounced on social networks the silence of Hollywood studios in the face of denunciations of “inappropriate behavior”.

« It’s a problem that continues to exist (…) It has to stop. » British-American actress Kate Beckinsale (Pearl Harbor Underworld) spoke on Monday, December 30 on social networks to denounce the attitude of Hollywood studios which, according to her, silence actresses who complain of inappropriate behavior during filming. In a five-minute video, she describes in turn the violence and harassment she suffered throughout her career in Hollywood.

She notably remembers being reduced to silence while she complained about her co-star’s repeated drunkenness during a film shoot, which forced her to wait « six hours a day for him to learn his lines », adding that she no longer had time to see her daughter. The studio’s response? « I was given a bike so I could ride it around the set while I waited. After that, I was called a “slut” and a “cunt” The actress also remembers another violent shoot for an action film, where she was injured by her screen partner. “ There is a certain kind of actor who takes pleasure in being legally allowed to hurt a woman. And I was injured, so much so that there were X-rays to attest to it. What happened after that was that I was manipulated, made to feel like I was the problem. I was blamed and ostracized, excluded from team dinners (…) as soon as I mentioned that there was a problem. »

But the actress also had to face numerous comments on her physique from the studios and her colleagues. Some wondered: “How are we going to make her attractive?» She also says she was forced to “ strict diets and sports programs » that she would have lost her periods twice. Without forgetting the day when she says she was forced to do a photo shoot the day after her miscarriage. “ You must do this or you will be sued “, his agent replied. Kate Beckinsale also says she was molested at 18. “ I was groped by someone from the film crew who I really trusted. I went to the lead actress, who is known for her support of women, and I told her what happened, and she said, “No, that didn’t happen”. I went to another actress to tell her that I had just been attacked by this man and they told me: “No, you weren’t.”

«I have about 47 million such stories. It’s been happening forever and what’s really depressing is seeing lots of men saying: ‘It was very different before, now the climate has changed and things are much better’. This is false. And if you talk about it, you’re screwed. You’re supposed to accept this.”she concluded. « It’s a problem that continues to exist (…) It has to stop. » His speaking out comes after the complaint filed by Blake Lively, made public on December 20, who accuses her co-star Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment during the filming of the film Never Again and for trying to ruin his reputation. “In light of recent events regarding the attempt to destroy the career and livelihood of a fellow actress and woman, I felt compelled to write this, as I have unfortunately been subject to the same toxic masculinity all throughout my life”, justified Kate Beckinsale.
