This Sunday, December 22, the Beaucairois were called to a citizen vote on the subject of the exhibition of a nativity scene in the Beaucaire town hall. According to the RN town hall, the vote received 98.56% “yes”.

Still according to the municipality, 1,680 inhabitants out of the 15,680 in the commune went to the two polling stations open this Sunday, or 10% of the Beaucairoise population.

People are attached to a certain number of values, customs, habits“, explains this Beaucairois at the microphone of France 3 .

Personally, I am not Catholic at all, I come to vote for a tradition. The nativity scene is pretty, it’s a Provençal nativity scene, there is no point in removing this nativity scene” adds this fifty-year-old.

I am delighted that we are finally being consulted on what is not a small detail because we are all affected. It's a 1,000 euro fine per day, but if we keep it, we'll know where our taxes are going.” declares this resident.

It is a Provençal and Camargue village. There is no religious event inside so I don't really understand on what basis we could judge that it had no place” concludes this voter.

The citizen vote was organized within 24 hours. It comes two days after the decision of the administrative court of Nîmes which ordered the town hall to remove the crèche within 48 hours.
