This crocodile was predestined for the cinema. It was captured in 1980 because it was causing problems in the Reynolds River, Australia. On the crocodile farm where he was taken, he was named Burt, in homage to the river and the actor Burt Reynolds.
It was on this farm that he was spotted by the team of the film in preparation, “Crorcodile Dundee”, released in 1986. He said that with his 5 meters, it was difficult not to notice him. However, in the scene where he appears, the character played by Linda Kozlowski does not see him when she kneels near the water. The monster then springs out and grabs with its mouth the gourd that the young woman is wearing around her neck.
The scene is memorable, both for the surprise that made the audience jump and for Linda Kozlowski's swimsuit. Obviously, it's not really Burt who grabs the canteen in his mouth and then fights with Paul Hogan, who plays Crocodile Dundee and who wrote the film. But the 700 kilo saurian was filmed from different angles and these images were integrated into the scene.
Burt was not done with cinema as he was used to create a digital crocodile which was used in the 2020 film “Rogue”, the animal terrorizing a team of mercenaries led by Megan Fox.
But the curtain fell for Burt, who died this weekend in the Darwin aquarium he had occupied for 20 years, ABCNews announced. He had reached the age of 90. He will be remembered by the staff at Crocosaurus Cove as a force of nature with one hell of a character. It had also been used as a medium to predict the results of elections or matches, but sometimes wrong.
