The French singer, contacted to participate in the sporting event, declined the invitation.
Mylène Farmer was contacted to participate in the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games last July, but refused because she was “not available”, revealed Thomas Jolly in an online documentary since Thursday, December 19.
“I had as a great French singer (…) Mylène Farmer. But she was not available. That's it… So, she told me no”, indicated the artistic director of the Olympics in The Great Seinedocumentary available on the sporting event website.
“We’re not going to lie to each other, of course, it’s the Olympics. The Olympic Games open doors, but there have also been refusals,” explains the composer Victor Le Masne in this movie. “It wasn’t an open bar either.”
Tribute to Mylène Farmer
Thomas Jolly nevertheless slipped in a tribute to Mylène Farmer during the opening ceremony. We can hear a 1991 remix of Disenchanted in one of the paintings devoted to dance.
The singer Gims revealed in an interview with Ciné Télé Revue that he had also refused to participate in the opening ceremony. “I could have done it, but it was not my will,” he explained, adding that he could “not be everywhere”.
Stating that he was “the singer closest to the world of sport”, and “the one who has been doing the biggest stage performances for 15, 20 years”, Matt Pokora, for his part, confided on BFMTV his disappointment at not having been contacted. “I thought I was legit.”
The return of Celine Dion
The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games was marked by the performances of several stars of international influence such as Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura and especially Céline Dion, who made her comeback on stage on this occasion.
The closing ceremony, for its part, was marked by a concert bringing together Phénix and Angèle and a stunt by Tom Cruise from the roof of the Stade de France.
