Launched on December 19, the range of edible perfumes is now available in Luxembourg. Four products are available and they have been designed to correspond to each time of the year to follow the seasons.
So, for spring, the proposed flavor is rhubarb; summer is characterized by the verbena/lavender combo; autumn with notes of candy apple “for the sweet side”. Finally, for the winter season, the chocolate and patchouli mixture was chosen. Another rose spray is also available and can be used in drinks.
Edible scents, really? This is made possible in the form of a spray, oil or hydrosol. Mario Willems has been working on this idea for a year and a half, in collaboration with the starred chef René Mathieu, his partner in the company My Roots, but also with the perfumer Cyrille Gerhardt (Smell-Marketing).
An edible perfume that is aimed at “Mr. or Madam Everyone”
“We wanted to take back our values which combine sustainability and locality through this product,” underlines Mario Willems. To do this, the three partners called on “the only eco-perfumer in the world”, Jean-Charles Sommerard, based in France. “He works with natural products and we have the same philosophy,” explains Mario Willems.
The edible perfume is not aimed at professionals in the sector but rather at “Mr. and Mrs. Everyman” because the quantities are designed for them. It can be used directly in cooking or in salad dressing or even on the plate.
The product itself is made in France and the bottle is made in the Grand Duchy. “We also made sure that the packaging was made from recycled paper and cardboard,” explains Mario Willems. If you ever indulge, the perfume can be used for up to two years. Will he make the difference on the plate?
