Known for being one of the lead singers of the group Chic in the 1970s, Alfa Anderson lent her voice to the hit “Le Freak”.

American recording artist Alfa Anderson, known for being one of the lead singers of the group Chic in the 1970s, and the voice of the hit Le Freakdied at the age of 78, report American media. The cause of his death has not been released.

“Thank you for everything,” Nile Rodgers, co-founder of the disco group in the 1970s with Bernard Edwards, wrote on his Instagram account. “We will always love you,” he added in a rhythmic video to another hit of the group where we can hear the voice of Alfa Anderson, At Last I Am Free.

Alfa Anderson had been involved with the group from its beginnings, lending her voice to their early hits like Good Times, Everybody Dance et I Want Your Love. So many pieces have become legendary and sampled by artists like Sugarhill Gang, Will Smith, Grandmaster Flash, Michael Jackson and Kylie Minogue.

Alfa Anderson began his career alongside jazz saxophonist Cannonball Adderley before serving as backing vocalist for salsa producer Ray Barretto, the R&B group Odyssey and rock guitarist Roy Buchanan. She also participated in the film's soundtrack. The Wiz with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.

Singer of Chic with Luci Martin and Diva Gray, Alfa Anderson had also collaborated with Diana Ross, Sister Sledge and Johnny Mathis on records produced by Nile Rodgers. After the end of Chic, she devoted herself to her solo career and notably sang with Mick Jagger. She released a solo album in 2017.
