The American rapper’s criminal trial before a judge in Manhattan federal court has been set for May 5, 2025.
If it proceeds as planned, Sean “Diddy” Combs will have to respond to both criminal complaints of sexual assault and civil ones seeking financial relief from victims.
Mr. Combs has been accused of sexual assault dating back to 1991 by nearly 120 victims, including 25 minors, and at least 20 civil complaints have been filed.
“We are in a scabrous affair with a lot of ramifications,” noted Me Olivier Piton, civil law lawyer in the United States, in an interview with Quebec MorningWednesday.
Victims who testify at trial could seek criminal financial compensation for the alleged sexual assaults they claim to have suffered and then seek financial compensation from the accused.
“Scabrous affair”
“Sean Combs will be forced to answer for both the facts of the assault [qu’à la plainte au civil]of whom there have been three more men in recent days, who have accused him of having drugged and raped them. We increase the number of potential victims who, from a strictly civil point of view, will probably request financial reparations,” explained Ms.e Olivier Piton.
The civil complaint will attempt to financially assess the damages suffered by the victims, whether they are declared victims and whether Sean “Diddy” Combs is found guilty.
If the American producer is found guilty, the victims will be entitled to financial reparations, which are a means of “repairing the harm that has been suffered,” said Mr.e Pilon.
In addition to accusations of sexual assault and rape, the criminal complaint for alleged sex trafficking with which the supposedly innocent Sean “Diddy” Combs is accused is “very rare”, according to Me Pilon.
According to the complaints filed by the victims, sex trafficking was allegedly organized in the “famous white parties of Sean “Diddy” Combs” where he invited several celebrities.
“If indeed, there was an accusation of trafficking in addition, that means that he would have organized a real mafia of sexual crimes, particularly against minors, and there, it would be much more serious.” emphasized the civil law lawyer in the United States.
Similar to the Epstein affair?
According to the accusations, other celebrities are possibly involved in this affair, including Jay-Z.
“We find the same mechanism as for the Jeffrey Epstein affair, that is to say that there are a lot of fantasies around this affair,” indicated M.e Pestle. In this case, there are extremely serious and extremely proven facts which demonstrate at the very least that Sean Combs had put in place a sort of system which allowed him to profit […] of a sort of sexual pool at his disposal and that of his guests.”
“We are in an absolutely lunar and incredible situation which is indeed of the order of the Epstein affair, at least in the fantasies that it creates in the American population,” he continued.
Sean “Diddy” Combs has denied all allegations he faces. He remains detained, despite his multiple requests to be released.
