After the essential neon green popularized by the success of the pop album Brat by Charli “Pink always goes hand in hand with green”, as Glinda, a character in the film, points out Wickedvery popular on social networks.
Since the release of the musical, inspired by the world of The Wizard of Oz, the looks of the two heroines, Glinda and Elphaba, have defined winter trends. With immediate success at the box office, Wicked and its pink and green aesthetic even overshadows the traditional red and green colors of Christmas.
The result of a promotion with great fanfare
Released in theaters on December 4 in France, Wicked was one of the most anticipated films of the year thanks to an impressive promo. For months, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the two stars of the film, have not left each other’s side and proudly display the essential colors of the musical: pink and green.
One of the highlights of this promo remains their exclusive performance at the Met Gala, an ultra-select event where phones and cameras are normally prohibited. Published on the social networks of Vogue and the famous singer Ariana Grande, the video was a hit, immediately becoming viral. Since then, “Wicked-mania” has not weakened. On the red carpets, at the Olympic Games, in interviews or on TV, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo continue their appearances with ever more glamorous looks, in pink and green tones, directly inspired by their characters. Enough to appeal to both musical theater fans and fashion enthusiasts.
And the craze doesn’t stop there. Brands like Crocs, H&M, OPI, Target, Primark and Claire’s jumped at the opportunity to launch collabs in the colors of the film. Result: pink and green are everywhere, from clothes to accessories to everyday objects.
On TikTok, Universal’s strategy is a hit: the hashtag #Wicked already has 1.2 million publications around the world. Fans aren’t just talking about the film, they’re outright adopting the pink and green duo in their everyday lives.
From outfit to Christmas decoration
Fashion, makeup, decoration… the duo of colors is everywhere. As soon as the film was released, spectators adopted the emblematic looks of the two heroines to go see the film in the cinema. Some took the transformation even further, by applying green makeup to their skin like Elphaba.
If we quibble, it should be noted that the colors of the film are baby pink and pine green. We find these colors in ribbons, voluminous dresses and powder pink makeup for Glinda; hat and close-fitting black outfit for Elphaba. While some fans take direct inspiration from their outfits for their own looks, others opt for more subtle accessories, like water bottles or pajamas. For the most creative, this includes the Christmas tree, decorated in homage to the two characters. On TikTok, the hashtag #WickedChristmas already has millions of posts showing pajamas, goodies, and Christmas trees revisited in pink and green tones.
@danyulh3d a pink tree goes good with a green tree!!! now showing: my #wicked christmas trees. ????I first had this idea trying to recreate the barbie dolls to match different iterations of the movie posters (insane already i know) but then was like waitttt what if i got a pink tree and suspended the dolls between the two to connect my green tree to a pink tree!!? haha It then turned into a #Glinda tree and #Elphaba tree that I kept adding to and coming up with new ways to make each tree their own and a visual representation of the poster and movie. Honestly, such a welcome creative outlet that I began working on and ordering things for since Halloween… and Glinda went really up on electi*n night after i shut the TV off and just focused on something GOOD (glinda the good ????) Anyway, I hope this brought you a little bit of joy as much as it did me!!! oh and if @arianagrande and @Cynthia Erivo ever see this I hope you like it too and I LOVE YOU BOTH and @Wicked Movie was so so incredible and meaningful and im grateful to have it now. ????✨????????Okay ive rambled long enough, go see wicked, i’ll be here with my trees until i go see it again! ???????????????????????? #arianagrande #cynthiaeviro #johnathanbailey #fiyero
