Ryan Reynolds is the father of four children with his wife Blake Lively – James, nine, Inez, eight, Betty, five, and son Olin, born in 2023 – and the actor revealed he was trying to giving a feeling of humility and gratitude, even though their luxurious upbringing is completely different from that of their parents as children.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “We try to give them as normal a life as possible. I try not to impose on them the difference between their childhood and mine or my wife’s. We both grew up in a family working class, and I remember when they were very young, I used to say or think, for example ‘My God, I would never have been so lucky when I was a child’, or: ‘I would never have had the luxury to have takeaway’. Then I realized that it’s not really their bag of stones to carry.
He adds of children: “They are already very sensitive to gratitude and understand enough of the world to have a strong sense of empathy.
These are things that I think indicate that we are doing a good job, if our children can have empathy for other people and other children. But yes, it’s different. When I was a kid, you just had to give up, get out of the house and be back at sunset, which I can’t even imagine today.”
