Organized by the National Foundation of Museums (FNM), this exhibition reveals, through a selection of works made available to the museum with the support of Omar Salhi, gallery owner of the Medina Art Gallery (Tangier), the multiple soul of the city of Strait. Featuring paintings by George Apperley, Terrick Williams and Enrique Simonet Lombardo, among others, the exhibition invites the public to discover Tangier as it was perceived at the time, through its emblematic places, its traditional neighborhoods and its local life . Through around thirty works, the exhibition reveals the diversity of views on the city at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, and thus outlines the evolution of Tangier, captured in all its splendor and its timeless appeal. .
Prolonged fascination
The head of the museums department at the FNM, Abdelaziz El Idrissi, indicated that this exhibition deals with the theme of the landscapes of Tangier, a city which has long captivated traveling artists who have followed in the footsteps of the painter Delacroix since the second half of the 19th century, to settle temporarily or permanently in the city of Strait.
Through the current exhibition, the artists provide an overview of the city of the Strait, thus constituting a historical testimony. “Tangier, the passion for color” outlines the evolution of views on the city, captured in all its splendor and its timeless appeal. Note that “Tangier, the passion for color” naturally extends the fascination started by the permanent collection of the Villa Harris Museum in Tangier, whose spaces were inaugurated almost four years ago.
