Swedish royal family bids farewell to Princess Birgitta

In the few stolen images, the silhouettes of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden are silhouetted among the thin trees of Haga Park, the royal cemetery where Princess Birgitta now rests, alongside her parents, Prince Gustave- Adolphe and Princess Sybilla. Surrounding the king and queen, we also recognize Crown Princess Victoria, her husband Prince Daniel who speaks with his brother-in-law Prince Carl Philip, very moved and comforted by his wife Princess Sofia… All wore dark toilets occasion to celebrate the memory of a princess who was nevertheless colorful. And who had chosen to live under the Mallorcan sun.

Solar but discreet

A discreet figure in the Swedish royal family, the second daughter of Prince Gustavus Adolphe did not miss major events, such as during the wedding of Princess Victoria and Daniel in 2010. The one who married the prince in 1961 Hansi Hohenzollern (disappeared in 2016), today leaves his brother the king inconsolable. “She was an extraordinary person and of great frankness who will be greatly missed,” he said, wishing to announce the disappearance of his big sister himself.

Farewell to the palace

Subjects of the Swedish crown who wished to share their thoughts with the grief of the royal family were invited to go to the State Room at the Royal Palace in Stockholm where books of condolence were opened. A tribute was also paid to Princess Birgitta in the Riddarholmen church in the heart of the Swedish capital, where the shield with the princess’s arms was placed, surrounded by the collar of the order of the Seraphim of which she was a member.

As for the royal family, it was in the church of Drottningholm Palace that they religiously celebrated their farewell to the princess. Farewells which, a few moments later in the Haga Park cemetery, brought tears to Prince Philip’s face…
