Scandal! Buckingham Palace announced through their spokesperson that an investigation was underway after the arrest of a member of staff following an employee Christmas party which turned into a fiasco.

According to the British media, including the tabloid The Sun, Buckingham Palace launches investigation after staff member arrested at end of eventful Christmas party. Police were called to a bar in Victoria, located in central London, a short walk from the palace, on Tuesday evening when a festive celebration turned into a nightmare. A 24 year old womanwhose identity has not been revealed, was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery, criminal damage, drunkenness and public disorderLondon Metropolitan Police said CNN.

According to the tabloid The Sun, the young womanwho spent Tuesday night and much of the following day in a police cell, reportedly a Buckingham Palace housekeeper and spent the evening with around 50 members of the palace staff. She allegedly broke glasses and attacked a bar employee.

Buckingham Palace management investigates after one of their employees is arrested

Buckingham Palace management has confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation and disciplinary action may be taken. A Palace spokesperson told the BBC: “We are aware of an incident outside the workplace involving a number of House staff who had previously attended an early evening reception at the palace.”

“Although this is an informal gathering and not an official Palace Christmas party, the facts will be fully investigated, with a rigorous disciplinary process followed in respect of each member personnel and appropriate measures will be taken.” The Buckingham Palace spokesperson then added that the post-reception drinks, which staff had at the bar, were informal and not organized by the Palace.

London Metropolitan Police arrest 24-year-old woman “suspected of assault”

A London Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the incident to CNN in an email, stating: “At 9pm on Tuesday December 10, officers were called to a bar on Victoria Street following reports that a customer had broken glasses and attempted to assault a member of staff. Officers attended and arrested a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of assault, criminal damage, drunkenness and disturbing the peace.”

“She was taken into custody and released the following evening after receiving a fine for disturbing the peace.”
