The Othym restaurant moved to a new location at the end of October on rue Atateken, a few steps from its former location on boulevard De Maisonneuve. The desire for more space motivated the two owners, Noé Lainesse and Kevin Duguay, to give new impetus to the Village institution which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The menu, which has always been local, remains the same, assures chef Noé Lainesse. Vegetables are still the stars of elegant plates. The chef becomes animated when talking about the larger storage space in their new location: he will be able to fully engage in fermentation and preservation, essential in their cold season dishes. The institution remains a “Bring your own wine”, a safe haven according to co-owner Kevin Duguay, “it reduces the bill a lot when everything is expensive”, he points out.

The new place, friendly with its earthy colors, also allows them to welcome groups. “We realize everyone that we refused on De Maisonneuve! », exclaims Kevin Duguay. Customers can now see the cooks at work – the kitchen was previously located in the basement. Some thank them at the end of the evening, which makes a big difference for the team, enthuses the co-owner.
The design of the restaurant was entrusted to the Clairoux firm and the owners wanted to infuse it with their philosophy of zero waste and local sourcing. Most of the furniture was moved by the team, tables were found in classified ads, lighting fixtures were made from old damaged plates and slates and bricks were reused to dress the new bar.
The restaurant’s logo has also undergone a facelift. Designed by Noé’s girlfriend and a friend, it reflects their style: “unpretentious, timeless, histrionic, messy,” reflects the chef. “We want to show with the logo that we have fun,” adds his partner.
Othym celebrated its 20th anniversary during the summer, confirming its status as an institution. “We were able to adapt to demand; working locally, with an approach of being more zero waste and with a half-vegetarian menu,” explains Noé Lainesse who has been there since the beginning. The owners are ready to celebrate more decades and their mission has just been anchored with their new location.
