The Swiss still love to travel, no reason for that to change next year. At least according to Hotelplan Switzerland. In 2024, Greece, Spain, Egypt and Turkey were the most popular destinations for beach holidays. North America, Thailand and Finland welcomed individual trips, reports the tour operator. Both Mediterranean destinations and Nordic countries are in high demand. The German amusement park Europa-Park and cruises were also popular.

In 2024, 68% of bookings were for trips without children. Around one in seven bookings were made by someone aged 18 to 29. As for the length of stays, 16% opted for three days or less. Some 41% of trips lasted four to seven days, while 38% lasted more than seven days. Only one stay in ten exceeded two weeks.

“The trends of 2024 are emerging for 2025. Individual tailor-made trips are often planned for the long term, due to the availability of experiences or accommodation, but also because the preview of the trip is a component essential,” notes Nicole Pfammatter, general director of Hotelplan Suisse. “Families often book at the last minute due to the increasing cost of living,” she adds.

Traveling is indeed becoming more and more expensive. The prices of plane tickets from Swiss airports have boomed in recent years. The same goes for overnight stays in hotels, according to a study published this spring by Comparis.ch.

The American travel guide publisher Fodor’s published a few days ago a list of destinations to avoid, as they suffer from mass tourism. This is the case of Agrigento in Italy, the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, the cities of Kyoto and Tokyo in Japan, and even Oaxaca in Mexico.
