She evokes Johnny Hallyday like never before. This Wednesday, December 4, 2024, Laura Smet agreed to speak with Paris Match to talk about the Taulier and the moments she shared with him, never mentioned before.
The daughter of Nathalie Baye and the artist who died on December 5, 2017 also took advantage of this interview to talk about the arrival of Jade in her family and how she had received the news of his adoption.
A long interview, in which Laura Smet also talks about how Johnny Hallyday managed to reason with her, particularly during the period when she saw him less. Despite his absence, the Taulier always knew how to find the words and intervene at the right time, according to his daughter.
Johnny Hallyday, a father always “present”
“He’s the one who really got me out of trouble”she admits to Paris Match before remembering: “At that time, when I wanted to be like him. It was a period when I saw him less so I was looking for him through the evenings, the nightlife. After an episode where I had seriously messed up he came to see me . I thought he was going to yell at me, but no. He said to me: 'But why don't you want to take the best in me?' His words got me through it. They brought us closer together.“.
This period when Laura Smet visits her father less corresponds to his departure for Los Angeles in 2007 but also to his accident in 2009, during which he spent three weeks in a coma, as our colleagues recall.
Following her accident, Nathalie Baye's daughter admits having “saw in him a great vulnerability”that she “didn’t know”. “He didn't understand what was happening. He drank a lot at that time. And he questioned his whole way of living, changed completely… Even physically, there was something different”remembers the 41-year-old artist.
A period in Johnny Hallyday's life that Laura Smet does not appreciate: “he wasn't very happy at that time. It's as if he had put a veil over his life, his message was 'I don't want to see anyone anymore, I'm staying in my thing'. It was a bit… special for David and me.”
-Laura Smet gave her consent for the adoption of Jade
During this long interview with Paris MatchJohnny Hallyday's daughter also agreed to reconsider the adoption of Jade.
An adoption that she welcomed very well, as she wished to ensure. Revealing that she easily accepted this new addition to her family, the 41-year-old artist indicated how she had received the news.
“As simply as possible”confides Laura Smet before detailing: “He called me: 'Here, you know, Læticia and I want to adopt a little girl from Vietnam'. I wasn't against it at all. He showed me photos of the baby some time later. late, when I had to go to the notary to give my consent. David had to do this too. The law requires that first children give consent.”. David Hallyday's half-sister assures him, with the latter they gave their consent “With pleasure”.
