This is music that comes back on repeat and is not what festival-goers expect. Before entering a meeting at the sub-prefecture of Châteaulin (29) on the future of the Vieilles Charrues, this Wednesday morning, the mayor of Carhaix (29), Christian Troadec, spoke to the press, leaving little room for hope. “The leaders of the Vieilles Charrues are in permanent controversy and we suffer it, while we do everything so that the festival takes place in good conditions”, he said with disconcerting aplomb.

“A political conflict”

The elected official denies any conflict of personalities, but highlights “a political conflict”, believing that one of the two officials would be committed to the president of the Department, Maël de Calan.

“The leaders of Vieilles Charrues threatened us to leave Carhaix in 2019 before the municipal elections and now they are doing the same thing to us before those in 2026.”

Maël de Calan, president of the Finistère departmental council, believes that “the solutions are on the table and it is easy to resolve the problems.” The same serenity is displayed by the regional president, Loïg Chesnais-Girard.

In front of the sub-prefecture, a delegation from the “Urgences Carhaix” vigilance committee addressed Maël de Calan, giving rise to a heated exchange.
