the essential
The author of the powerful hit “You are crazy” will be one of the stars of the nostalgic set from the 1990s and 2000s, offered on Friday at the Horizon room. Interview with a trailblazer who is always keen!

So, you’re still going to call us all “whew”, right?

(He laughs)… You’re right, the public wants more, they love it too much! I have to call them “crazy”, they are just waiting for that!

All the same, this song “You are crazy” that you performed at the time with Perfect and Daddy K, marked an entire generation, because you were a pioneer in the field…

It’s true that this title is one of the great classics of the 1990s. It left its mark on the public, the youth of many young people. You have an urban track that comes suddenly, danceable, with scratching and everything that goes around. You are crazythat’s just 3 million singles sold. We were still the first Gold record in the history of French hip-hop!

What happened to your friends Perfect and Daddy K?

We continue to see each other. We still do performances as a threesome in Belgium. On December 14, we go back on stage in a club near Waterloo for the 35th anniversary of You are crazy (the hit actually dates from 1989, editor’s note). On this occasion, 300 vinyls will be pressed especially for the event and we will offer a remastered version of You are crazy. Otherwise, Daddy K is still a DJ and he performs in Belgium; as for Perfect, he has also been a DJ for 2 years and he works for a club.

And what have you done since the beginning of the 1990s?

After the three of us separated at the end of 1993, I continued on my own, but it wasn’t the same. I stopped voluntarily to devote myself to my family and have two children. We will say that for 10 years it was calm in terms of music. But from 2005, with the broadcasts Revivalsomeone came to look for me! In 2011, I did the big tour of Dance Machine where we had between 45 and 50 dates! Later there was the tour Stars 80and then the year after another 60 dates with the tour Born in 90.

Do you like plateaus like ’s?

The particularity of the sets is that you are not alone! I offer a show of around thirty minutes, with urban and we travel in French rap. You know, I’m a bit of a darling of the 1990s. Nostalgia is having reference points in the songs we listen to. And on these sets, we listen to a lot!
