Fresh from the shores of childhood, Niko, the little reindeer, is destined to join Santa’s brilliant reindeer team. This will lead him to make great discoveries, about himself, about others, and about his family… A gripping film, in touch with the questions of children at the dawn of adolescence.
Competition, renunciations, the de-idealization of parents… As many themes as the film Niko, the little reindeer addresses in its new episode: “Mission Santa Claus”. Niko is 13 years old (human age), he is preparing to join Santa’s flying reindeer brigade, but as tradition dictates, to do so he must pass a selection against the very ambitious Stella. But an even greater ordeal awaits him: the disappearance of Santa’s sleigh… Niko must then do everything possible to save Christmas. Here are three reasons why this film may appeal to you and your children, ages 3 and up.
1. For adventure
Niko discovers as best he can the notion of competition, with its positive side linked to surpassing oneself, but also with the sacrifices it implies. When he must choose between his values and victory, Niko’s heart wavers. How far will he be willing to go?
2. For its initiatory dimension
Without risk of spoilers, the biggest discovery Niko makes during this new “Santa mission” concerns his father, Furie. He had always idealized him, but he learns that our childhood heroes also have their weaknesses. A nice metaphor for what growing up entails.
3. For lemmings
Among all the endearing characters depicted in this film, the lemmings win all our votes. They always move in an organized group, and speak with one voice, sometimes without really thinking, which gives rise to misunderstandings and hilarious gags. The leaders, Lala, Lappi, Leo, their big eyes and their cute little faces, will not leave you indifferent.
“Mission Santa Claus” is the third opus of the adventures of the little reindeer since its creation in 2008. Finnish director Kari Juusonen and his team have surpassed themselves with the artistic direction. Sublime settings and breathtaking action scenes complete the picture for young and old.
