Bringing Lego figurines to life in the emblematic places of Labarthe-sur-Lèze: this is the challenge of Florent Cattelain and his son Eliott, 8 years old, through their photo exhibition, Labrique-sur-lèze. “We wanted to combine creativity and local discovery. With Eliott, we recreated everyday scenes using LEGOs, placed in different places in the city: the cinema, parks, schools or even the cemetery. Each photo was taken with a smartphone, a voluntary choice to show that we can take beautiful photos with few resources, Eliott chose and arranged the figurines, and I took the photos. Then, we looked at the result together to adjust,” explains Florent. .
“We wanted to give the impression that the mini-figures were coming to life, almost as if they belonged to the decor. For this, we focused on the perspective: we placed the device at ground level for a realistic effect. everything, this project took us a month and a half, with the vagaries of the weather, because almost everything was done outdoors. In the end, there are 17 photos, each showing an emblematic or little-known place, like “La Bobinette”. Or the health journey”, explains the photographer. “What’s great is the reception from the public: the children ask lots of questions and the adults, sometimes very moved, rediscover forgotten places. The exhibition touches all generations, and it’s very gratifying”, he adds.
A participatory exhibition
Florent also encourages children to create their own scenes: “With their LEGOs, their Barbies or their Playmobils, they can imagine their stories, photograph them and send their photos to the media library. We will be happy to exhibit them!”
