The Galerie de Chartres, a well-known auction house in the Eurelian capital, is accustomed to original, unusual or exceptional sales. But the one she is offering this Sunday, December 1, 2024 in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) may be among the most beautiful.

As spotted The Auction Magazinefans will indeed be able to treat themselves to this incredible “ Van Gogh who adds a touch of paint, steps back, thinks and wonders, arms in the air”… quite simply an automaton which is among the most impressive in this sale. Fans will also be delighted to discover several mechanical organs.

A mechanism of incredible finesse

“The finesse of the mechanism and the movements, right down to the painter’s eyelids, the atypical subject, everything contributes to making this automaton an exceptional piece,” believes Elsa Gody-Baubauauctioneer at the Galerie de Chartres interviewed by our colleagues from the Auction Magazine.

A work which is a creation from the 1970s by Geneviève and Claude Laurent, “undisputed leaders in this field”, this Van Gogh in deep thought in front of Les Tournesols will be among the most beautiful pieces of the December 1st sale (estimate between 6,000 to 10,000 euros).

We can add the hookah smoker by Léopold Lambert (7,000 to 10,000 euros) with even the smoke coming out of the smoker’s mouth! Quite simply true marvels of engineering that are particularly complex to restore.

Rather rare objects on sale which will delight discerning collectors.

Mechanical organs

This Chartres sale also gives pride of place to numerous mechanical organs appraised by Denis Lambotte.

We thus find a rare American fairground or dance organ estimated between 12,000 and 15,000 euros dating from the 1920s.

We must also count on more modest but magnificent barrel organs, music boxes, magic accordions, calliope, chordephon, symphonion…

Many fairground devices will fascinate amateurs because some are rather rare for sale.
