Guillaume Benoit was four years old when he started playing the piano. “My parents wanted to put me into music early, because they hadn’t had that chance. I wanted to play the drum. But my mother told me that at two years old, I had dove in with both feet in the drum given by my grandfather Finally, it was the piano and it was an immediate match.” says the YouTuber.

During his musicology studies, Guillaume Benoit will collaborate with a student radio station. In 2015, he created his channel on YouTube, called Let’s Revise our Classics.

I really missed classical music. On the radio, I mostly played Top 50 hits. It was the time when many people were starting out on YouTube as popularizers. When I talked about classics with my friends, I saw that they were interested. So I said to myself why not me.

The channel has 50,000 subscribers, mainly young people aged 18 to 35. Many discovered classical music this way. Guillaume Benoit uses the codes of social networks, does not hesitate to compare Felix Mendelssohn, great romantic composer to Squeezie.

After stopping projects during the Covid 19 pandemic, he relaunched his channel “with lighter formats, but also more accessible. In four years, the codes have evolved, it is no longer necessary to have costumes and big budgets” he explains.

Accustomed to doing extensive research on composers for his videos, he has just published a book entitled “49 little stories of classical music” (Editions DBS). The concept remains close to the YouTube channel, offering anecdotes to help people discover the great masters of classical music in a relaxed way.

Guillaume Benoit is the guest of Gwénaëlle Louis, in the cultural show Norman biban Ici Normandie program on France 3. He talks about his other passions, notably football and Olympique Lyonnais, and cinema. He also shares some non-classical musical favorites.

Norman Bavette with Guillaume Benoit broadcast on November 27, 2024 at 12:05 a.m.
