The Boys will soon come to an end (well, in a few years) and obviously, Amazon must certainly think about what’s next. And that greatly worries Eric Kripke, the creator of the Prime Video series.
Play with fire
When we experience success, true success, we often tend to want to make the most of it, even if it means burning our wings a little and losing our identity. The trends in the film industry prove this well and with its satirical and die-hard side, the series The Boys makes fun of it blithely and without any filter. In this universe, the Vought company produces numerous films, series and reality TV shows to influence the public; we can even see a imitation MCU in season 4 where Marvel is openly mocked.
The problem, is that itself becoming a Disney-style MCU with all that that implies is not necessarily excluded when we are called Sony and Amazon, two entertainment giants who have found with The Boys a superhero license which finally stands out and above all, which is enormously viewed. Enough to directly worry the creator of the series himself, Eric Kripke, who recently spoke to Collider in an interview.
I live in absolute terror that The Boys will become what we’ve been ridiculing for the past five years. The thing about The Boys is that it’s punk rock and it hurts even more when the punks sell out. I work very hard so that we don’t sell out.
An extended universe already in motion
Because yes, The Boys is already a universe that is multiplying its projects. First, let’s remember that the series as we know it will end in 2026 with a season 5, filming of which has just started, but there is also Gen Va side story with Super students at university, the first season of which is already available on Prime Video. A second is already being prepared. It’s not over yet, since the Vought Rising prequel will take Solider Boy and Stormfront as figureheadsa project still at a preliminary stage nonetheless.
However, the world of The Boys is already expanding well and these new projects have been validated by Kripke, who also serves as producer. “We have to be very careful and aware of the decisions we make, and be able to defend why we made them. That worries me every day.”he concluded during his interview. A justified fear, in your opinion?
