Nicolas Labrude and Lucille Schwall form the Ayki Nokoon duo. Two voices, two guitars: the couple offers music that is both dark and intimate, where airy guitar chords mingle with soaring vocals. An electro folk universe to discover on the #studio3 stage, on which the artists offered us two pieces.

Ayki Nokoon. A name composed with Japanese accents, behind which hides a duo from Franche-Comté who, since 2020, have been developing soaring music between electro, folk et rock’n’roll, to English lyrics. At the helm, Nicolas Labrude and Lucille Schwall. These two, inseparable in life as on stage, share everything: songwriting, vocals, guitar and bass.
Ayki Nokoon is an anagram of the title of a Deftones album, Koi No Yokan. It’s the feeling you get when you’re falling in love.

A touch of romanticism to serve two feathers with one ambition: to create intimate songs, but also dark and sensitive, in which the voices blend perfectly with guitar chords and computer-assisted music (MAO). A universe in which the influences of the two members of Ayki Nokoon mix. Deftones, we have already mentioned it, but also Cat Power at Lucille and “film music“, very present in Nicolas.
All of this can be found in the first piece performed by the group on the set of #studio3, The Antler, the story of an encounter.magic“between a man and a deer, in the middle of the forest.”We want to bring a feeling of immediacy, to recall everything that can happen in a few seconds” explains Lucille. “We want to show that when a special moment happens to us, we have to seize it” adds Nicolas.
But Ayki Nokoon is also… image. Important and essential for the duo. “There is a big part of atmosphere that we try to create“says Lucille.”We want to bring this slightly hushed, mysterious side where we will make sure that we are silhouettes, shadows, which appear on our screens. It’s important to take the public with us” adds Nicolas.
Ayki Nokoon is now trying to establish herself in Franche-Comté and do a series of concerts. “It’s not necessarily the most obvious music to play in bars” s’amuse Nicolas. “We are therefore looking for dates in different places, which will allow us to offer our creations to the public.“. And that’s good, because the duo recently released a new EP, Petrichor, in September 2024.
