CHAPTER 2 / PATHE FILMS

The film “The Count of Monte Cristo” has already exceeded one million admissions, boosted by the Fête du Cinéma.

CINEMA – French movie theaters get a boost. With 4.65 million spectators, the 2024 edition of the Fête du Cinéma has broken its attendance record since its creation, announced the National Federation of French Cinemas (FNCF) on Thursday, July 4. An increase “more than 50% compared to 2023”reports the latter, which we owe in particular to two films made in France.

The first day of this 4-day operation, Sunday June 30, already announced some encouraging figures for this 39th edition: 1,450,000 spectators took the opportunity to go to the cinema, “the best day of the Fête du Cinéma in 20 years”. And the interest in this event, which offers tickets for five euros, was confirmed in the following days.

800,000 admissions were recorded on Monday, 1,100,000 admissions on Tuesday and 1,300,000 admissions on Wednesday. The previous record, over this period which has been the one retained since 2012, was 3.5 million spectators, in 2013 and 2021.

French films on the bill

« The French have thus massively reaffirmed their attachment to cinema in theaters, the primary cultural leisure activity for our fellow citizens. “, the FNCF congratulates itself in its press release.

According to the federation, this success can be explained in particular by a program ” particularly rich “, with two French films on the bill: The Count of Monte Cristo by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière with Pierre Niney, released on June 28 and which has already exceeded the million admissions mark, and A little something extra d’Artus, released on May 1st, which brought together nearly 10 million spectators. The Pixar feature film Vice-Versa 2, released on June 19, also attracted crowds, as did the new horror film Without a sound: day 1.

In the last two years, this festival has had more difficult editions, with less popular films and a one euro increase in the price of tickets in 2023.
