Jude Law busts the myth of the famous cottage from The Holiday

All it took was a declaration of Jude Law so that the myth collapses. No, the cottage The Holidayso dear to the hearts of fans of this cult romantic comedy, does not exist. In an interview, the actor dampened the enthusiasm of moviegoers who were planning a winter pilgrimage in the footsteps of the heroes of The Holidaysince it is impossible to locate the charming Rosehill Cottage in real life: “This cottage does not exist,” he declared in an interview with the BBC, before attracting the wrath of the podcast hosts , disappointed. “Say no more,” they asked him jokingly.

The film of Meyersreleased in 2006, tells the story of two women, the Englishwoman Iris (Kate Winslet) and the American Amanda (Cameron Diaz). Disappointed by their latest love stories, they decide to take a break from their dreary daily life to spend Christmas far from their torments. The solution? Swapping homes for winter vacation. Arriving in the British countryside, Amanda falls under the spell of Graham (Jude Law), Iris’s brother. Their idyll was born in the famous cottage that made all lovers of rom com for whom The Holiday has become the ultimate cozy Christmas film.

“The director [Nancy Meyers] is a bit of a perfectionist, explained Jude Law on the BBC. She looked all over the area and couldn’t quite find the chocolate box house she was looking for. So she rented land. She designed the cottage and asked the team to build it. […] We were filming here in the winter. And every time I opened the door to go in, there was an interruption. We shot the interior scenes in Los Angeles about three months later. »

According to House and Gardenit is still possible to see the house that inspired the film’s decorators: Honeysuckle Cottage, in Holmbury St Mary in Surrey. Currently available on Airbnb, the house corresponds in every way to the image of the picturesque cottage lost in the English countryside, whose charm is revealed as soon as the first snowflakes fall. Aware of having slightly tarnished the magic of the film, Jude Law made up for it by talking about the popularity of The Holiday with emotion: “I find it quite simply, honestly, magnificent”.
