Mary of Denmark pays moving tribute to Frederik in her new official portrait

King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark grace the screen in an astonishing series of three photographs published this week. Taken by photographer Steen Evald in the Great Hall of Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg, Copenhagen, these photos, released less than two months before the first anniversary of King Frederik’s coronation, will be used by the royal household during official trips, tours and special events.

The series includes three portraits: one of the king alone, one of the queen and one of the couple together. In the photos, Queen Mary looks quite regal, appearing in a white round-neck dress, which she paired with her favorite diamond earrings. In March 2022, she purchased these Belle Époque-style jewelry at an auction at Bruun Rasmussen for her 50th birthday. Her brown hair was styled with a silky blow-dry reminiscent of the Princess of Wales, while her makeup was simple: a plum smokey eye, a hint of pink blush and a nude pink lip.

One of the most striking details of Mary’s outfit is the easiest to miss at first glance: a delicate chain around her neck, emblazoned with a tiny diamond letter “F”, as a sweet nod look at her husband. The Queen has already been spotted wearing this piece, which is believed to be from the Danish brand Halberstadt: at an event marking the 50th anniversary of Aalborg University in April, it could be seen shining around her neck, and it was The magazine protrudes from the collar of his shirt at an event during a royal tour of India in March 2023.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Danish water pump manufacturer Grundfos setting up shop in Chennai, Queen Mary wore an elegant Max Mara suit, which she paired with her Halberstadt chain and another personalized locket necklace, which she said to be a creation of Julie Sandlau and said to feature the initials of her four children: Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Princess Joséphine and Prince Vincent.
