« Femme, life, freedom”: these were the words written on the bare chest of Lio, who, like a hundred feminists linked to the Femen France movement, demonstrated on Sunday November 24, the eve of the International Day Against Violence Against Women . The interpreter of “Brunettes don't count for plums” and his comrades in the struggle, in black pants, held a black veil at the end of their outstretched arm, as a sign of mourning for all the women killed, raped, persecuted throughout the world .

In the middle of smoke bombs which fogged the Place du Louvre and the Pei pyramid, the activists shouted tirelessly in several languages the slogan displayed by the French artist, as shown in the video from the CLPRESS press agency. Previously, the singer had sung the feminist song “L'Hymne des femmes”, her head covered with the black veil. The other participants had the veil on their face, “a symbol of mourning and the erasure of women”, and wore a crown of paper flowers, a sign of Femen.

Domestic violence
In a long message on Instagram, accompanied by photos of this “great action”, Femen and Lio claim to want to lift the veil on “patriarchal violence against women throughout the world”. They came together to eliminate “theocracies, wars and dictatorships”. The Louvre is presented as the symbol of elitist cultural power transformed for the occasion into a “revolutionary space of resistance”.
This is not the first time that Lio has been associated with Femen “political action”. For the tenth anniversary, on April 19, 2018, of the feminist organization born in Ukraine, whose members expose their breasts as a sign of protest, the singer of “Shouldn't Begin” posed topless and sang during the Femen Riot Party.

She repeatedly underlined the ravages of control and manipulation, as well as the difficulty of leaving and filing a complaint against the attacker and the not always warm reception at the police station. She was also one of the first to publicly refute the term “crime of passion” in the death of Marie Trintignant caused by the beatings of Bertrand Cantat.

Prime Minister Michel Barnier detailed today, November 25, his plan to combat violence against women: an increase in the budget for universal emergency aid (which should increase from 13 million euros in 2024 to 20 million euros in 2025) and an expansion of the system for filing complaints directly with the hospital. In the wake of the Mazan rape affair, an information campaign on “chemical submission” is launched this week.
Feminist associations, for their part, are calling for a “comprehensive framework law” to replace the puzzle of current laws.
