He is part of the new generation of Burkinabè musicians who manipulate words in language to express the ills that are gnawing at society. Blem de son d’artiste is known for his raw and daring texts. From rap to afrobeat, the Burkinabè artist has adapted to several styles of music even if he claims to be a rapper who broke through thanks to his controversial title “Safi.”

A song decried by feminists in Burkina Faso, describing it as “attacking moral and educational values, modesty, good morals and the dignity of the human person, particularly that of women”. Seized by a collective of feminists, the Burkinabè media regulatory body decided to ban the broadcast of the song “Safi.”

Difficult to be on the boards

The career of the young Burkinabè artist has not always been without difficulties in his country. He first traveled around with friends before seeing the end of the tunnel while Blem’s parents, his father, in particular, wanted his son to become a footballer.

Blem finally became a singer because football was not successful for him and even if he did not completely abandon his childhood dream, success seems to smile on him through music….

Among the local artists whose works inspired Blem is Floby, who recently celebrated his 18th career. Like Floby, Blem often pays tribute to his country and the honest men who founded it.

If Blem says he is ready to “sing” to cure the ills from which Burkina Faso suffers, he is also convinced that Burkina first needs peace to reconcile its daughters and sons.
