Vic Flick has died at age 87. The talented English studio guitarist was best known for his contribution to a legendary piece: the “James Bond Theme”, signed Monthy Norman and arranged by John Barry. It is in fact Flick who provides the riff on the electric guitar which punctuates this music inseparable from Agent 007 in the cinema, since the first film, “Dr No”, in 1962.

Vic Flick continued to contribute to Bond soundtracks until the end of the 1980s. In 1999, he collaborated on the album “Bond Back In Action”, then on “James Bond Now”, in 2003. Two years later, it can be heard again on the soundtrack of the video game “From Russia With Love” by Electronic Arts.

But it would not be fair to summarize Vic Flick as James Bond, as the guitarist has put himself at the service of numerous artists, like Cliff Richard, Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones (on the legendary songs “It’s Not Unsual” and “What’s New Pussycat”), George Martin, Paul McCartney and Sinatra.

The Clifford Essex Paragon De Luxe guitar on which Vic Flick played the original “James Bond Theme” has been displayed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, USA.
