Gérald Kerguillec, a watercolor painter based between Vaudreuil and Val-de-Reuil, offers the public the opportunity to discover his work during an open house weekend in his workshop, on November 29, 30 and December 1, 2024.
It is at the very bottom of his garden that his workshop can be seen. Gérald Kerguillec, 72, never stops creating. For forty years, the passion has not left him. “I have a great need to do, to make”smiles the artist, in the middle of dozens of these paintings whose subject is: nature. An inexhaustible subject with ideas that come easily to him, without the need for photographs. In his abstract art we sometimes recognize pebbles which take us on a journey to a Breton beach, then, just after, a forest with flamboyant autumn colors. What interests Gérald Kerguillec are “the flows, the waves”on these canvases, one could believe that the lines are moving, that the waves of the sea are undulating.
Need to surprise
“For me to be satisfied with a painting, it must surprise me”explains the artist. So some works are light, they seem to be done in one go. For others, we feel the weight of the successive layers of paint on the paper, a sign that the work was longer, more complex.
It had been three years since Gérald Kerguillec last opened his workshop to the public. But the desire to discuss art was too strong. Everyone is welcome: “Even people who are not informed. They sincerely make the effort to look at things. » In addition to exhibiting in his workshop, the Rolivalois will use his garden as an open-air exhibition room with several series of paintings. A true artistic stroll not to be missed.
