2024 is a year to be marked with a milestone for the Museum of Impressionisms in Giverny, in Eure. In addition to celebrating the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, the establishment saw an increase in attendance.
The 2024 season ended on Sunday November 3 at the Museum of Impressionism in Giverny. For this year, marked by the 150 years of impressionism and the Normandy impressionist festivalthe establishment recorded a further increase in its attendance.
Visitors meet at the museum
The 2024 program recorded an increase of attendance, with more than 142,000 visitors coming to discover the exhibitions, compared to 133,000 last year, an increase of 6.7%. As a reminder, in 2022, the museum welcomed 125,000 visitors.
The 2024 season closed with the end of the exhibition Hiramatsu Reiji. Symphony of the Water Lilies. The Museum of Impressionisms began its season with the exhibition Impressionism and the seawhich took place from March 29 to June 30, 2024. Nearly 86,000 visitors came to discover how the sea inspired the great impressionist masters through views of seaside, ports, storms or even the taste of elsewhere.
The 2024 season continued with Hiramatsu Reiji. Symphony of the Water Lilies. Produced under the patronage of the Embassy of Japan in France, and with the support of the Sasakawa Foundation, the exhibition presented 14 screens
masterful and unpublished works which reflected the Japanese artist’s love for Claude Monet and Giverny. More than 56,000 visitors came to discover the work of the Master of nihonga.
“In parallel with its exhibitions, the Giverny Museum of Impressionism continued its proposal of various axes of mediation with inaugural conferences, conferences on the 150 years of Impressionism, thematic interviews on the representation of the sea in the art and the Japanese art market, or even creative workshops. »
The young public was able to discover the exhibitions thanks to adapted visiting routes, a fun mediation room, but also junior openings and artistic workshops during the school holidays.
The museum plays overtime
Until January 4, 2025, the Giverny Museum of Impressionism is organizing a series of events for its visitors, young and old.
On the program: an opening of the museum’s shop, garden and restaurant every weekend; conferences led by historians and art critics; concerts; literary meetings; visits from the museum’s head gardener; creative workshops for families and children; a Christmas market.
