Suffering from heart disease, Melissa Toledano transmits her vision of a chaotic world, on the edge of the abyss, to her daughter, Eugénie, who will have to counter the dark forces by in turn practicing inner journeys. By traveling through time, Eugénie will have to bring together the five souls that make up the Hand of Light and prevent the dark forces from triumphing.
In The Waltz of Soulsa great adventure novel where love plays a big role, Bernard Werber reminds us that books and knowledge are the keys to saving humanity.
Regressive hypnosis
The visionary writer knows very well the regressive hypnosis he talks about in the novel since he practices it himself. The experimental inner journeys he describes are even an integral part of sold-out shows almost everywhere – most recently at the Olympia.
“I try to raise awareness. As the period becomes more and more tense and aggressive, we need to set up areas where we calmly reflect on what is happening, and how the world will evolve,” comments Bernard Werber in an interview.
“The project Waltz of Soulsit’s a project where I try to put all of History into perspective, how we got here, and how we risk reproducing patterns that have already been disasters in the past.”
Fascinating experiences
The experiences he describes in the novel correspond in part to what he himself experienced. “I found myself in one of my past lives in Prehistory. It was actually quite surprising. I imagined a Prehistory where they would be dirty and much more animalistic, and I found them very organized.”
“Afterwards, I can’t place the time or the country. All I remember is the feeling that there was still an organization, a bit like I did with a leader, a sorcerer. Everyone knew their place. Women also participated in the hunt: they were not just at the cave, waiting. All this isn’t scientific: it’s just feeling. But I still find it amusing: it’s the perfect material for writing novels.”
The Akashic Library
He talks about the famous Akashic library, a mythical place where all the knowledge and the future of humanity are in some way classified and stored.
“It was one of my mediums who told me that. She told me: I saw things in the Akashic library that concern you. I don’t have the belief that “if she told me, it will happen.” I’m in: hey, if she told me, I have to use it for the novel.
“Everything, for me, is a novel. The advantage of the novel compared to reality is that I don’t need to prove the novel. I don’t need to change my life to adapt to the information,” he adds.
Invent this library
Intrigued, he went to see what it was. “There was no visual, physical thing. I said to myself: I’m going to have to create, I’m going to have to invent this library.”
“I started drawing plans as if I were building a house or a project. I invented this mirror sphere with, inside, lives already past, lives in the present and future and the tree of time in the middle. From the moment I drew it, I could put it in the novel and visualize it.”

“Eugénie Toledano opens her eyes suddenly, suddenly ejected from one space-time to join another.
She remains stunned.
The bell rings again.
Her mouth gaping, her eyes staring into the distance, she still doesn’t move. She hears her father open the front door and perceives from a distance that he is talking with the pizza delivery man. Back near the sofa, he places the two pizza boxes on the coffee table.
– I forgot about that one… How do you feel? We must not come out of a regression like that, so quickly. It’s like being woken up in the middle of your sleep. Or as if you came back from a scuba dive without respecting the decompression stops…”
