For his forty years of passion, Bernard Varvat, marble sculptor based in Bouc-Bel-Air for many years, will present forty works reflecting his artistic evolution. But be careful, even if Bernard is twice forty, this retrospective is not an end but a stage: “I am always driven by the desire to create. I still have a lot to express with my great companion, marble. “, he confides.

If the artist began to work on black marble from Belgium, of which he best values the way in which it catches the light, for several years, he has opened up to colored marbles from Brazil, Egypt, Portugal , unearthed by its importer, very open to his requests, or even from Caunes-Minervois (11) where he uses the very intense veined red. “I’m looking for parallelepiped blocks that don’t inspire me with anything other than their color. I start from my imagination in order to translate it into the block of marble“, indicates Bernard Varvat before adding: “I need to create in three dimensions. I try to be imaginative in the design and rigorous in the production. I work directly on the marble block with different shaped tools, made of forged steel or tungsten carbide. Then I use rasps for sanding and polishing.”
