It is an epilogue that is fast approaching, without arousing any particular regrets in the person concerned. L’Ensemble Cantatio will soon be remembered and will leave behind four decades of activities in baroque vocal art, in Geneva and elsewhere in Europe. It is difficult not to see, in the destiny of this group which has marked our musical landscape with its often pioneering approaches, the orientations of its founder and artistic director, John Duxbury. The Briton has shaped the careers of two generations of artists with his personality and his discreet, even modest character traits. “I am not surrounded by assistants or disciples who would have wanted to continue the adventure,” notes the leader, with a discreet smile. So, we will have to stop.”
