Mentissa, born in Denderleeuw, in the Flemish part of Belgium, won the Belgian version of “The Voice Kids” ten years ago. “A huge responsibility”, which she did not envisage taking on last year”
Last year, a few months after the release of his first album, The Twenties (gold record), she was among the nominees for the Victoires de la Musique, in the female revelation category. And at the moment, it’s a duet with Joseph Kamel on the title You livethat we hear it on the radio.
In an interview given to 20 Minutesat the beginning of 2023, Mentissa had decided on a possible participation in Eurovision. “A year and a half ago, I would have said yes straight away. It’s a competition that I’ve loved since I was little, I’m a big fan of the concept, it’s very stylish. Before “The Voice”, for me, doing Eurovision was the dream, it was representing Belgium,” she said then.

But she continued: “And now, after a year and a half of career, I would rather say no. It’s not a negative no or rejection, it’s just that I no longer project myself into it. Maybe because before it was a dream and today I’m living a dream similar to that, everything that’s happening to me is so incredible… And then, Eurovision, representing a country, this is a huge responsibility. Looking back, I’m not sure I wanted to take it. »
Professional jury and public votes
The singer has therefore revised her opinion and is preparing to enter the Eurovision race for Belgium. The selection, entitled “Eurosong”, will take place in several stages. In January 2025, the VRT is planning two preliminary rounds during which the eight candidates (Mentissa, Grace, Jelle van Dael, LEEZ, Le Manou, Lenn, Red Sebastian and Stefanie Callebaut) will perform their new songs without staging.
The final will be broadcast live on VRT1 on February 1. A professional jury and votes from the public will choose the winner who will represent Belgium at Eurovision 2025 at least in May in Basel (Switzerland).
