At a press conference this Thursday, June 20, after her concert at the Mawazine festival on the Salé stage, Latifaa Raafat presented herself in front of journalists and answered without filters questions concerning rumors about cosmetic surgery, its detractors and his return to the festival.

Seven years after her remarkable performance in Mawazine, Latifa Raafat returns to perform during the 19th edition, reserving many surprises for her audience.

We do not present her anymore. Latifa Raafat is an emblematic figure of Moroccan music who left her mark on an entire generation with songs which achieved enormous success such as “Khouyi”, “Ana fi arek ya yamma” or even “Maghyara” as well as covers of some heritage gems music of the Kingdom.

“I am very happy to come back and open Mawazine, a world-famous festival which allowed us to highlight our musical culture and our artists, especially the presence of Arab media in particular and the influx of Arab artists and Westerners. I am delighted to find my audience again”she said, affirming that she had new songs that she wanted to introduce to festival-goers.

Before continuing to talk about music, the 58-year-old artist brushed aside rumors that she had succumbed to cosmetic surgery, saying that she had undergone a purely medical operation following a fat lump that she had had in her throat for more than 7 years.

Asked about a return to her roots with a desire to bring up to date the pieces that made her success such as “Khouyi”, the singer with many hats declared: “I’m always trying to reinvent myself. I have 70 pieces in my repertoire, the viewer should have a musical awareness and go further than the classics that I have sung for years”she explains. “I think the public doesn’t listen to my music enough apart from the popular ones”she added.

Concerning her presence on social networks, Latifa Raafat returned to a break that she wanted to take following numerous threats to which she was the subject. The Moroccan artist warned against the harmful use of RS but affirms that it is also a tool which allows to highlight Moroccan music as well as many artists.

Latifa Raafat admitted that she had never been tempted by the spotlights of Egypt or the Gulf, she always wanted to sing for her Moroccan audience who will find her on Friday June 21 on the stage of Salé.
