On Friday, November 22, the association will organize a major piano concert played by two talented pianists.
Constant Despres and Rolando Luna will perform that evening at 9 p.m. under the Halle aux Grains. The face of Constant Despres is perhaps not unknown to you. Born in 2006 to an Indian mother and a French father, he was born into a family of musicians and entered the Toulouse Conservatory before he was six years old.
Winner of numerous competitions (Chatou, Brest, Franz Liszt Center, Cap Ferret) at eleven years old he was “Prodige 2017” and played the Grand Concert in front of 45,000 spectators. He was then a guest at numerous festivals: Piano Pic, Les Arts Renaissants, Vézère festival, and last summer Jazz in Marciac.
In 2021, he obtained the Piano Prize with distinction, with congratulations from the jury, and the Chamber Music Prize, at the Toulouse Conservatory. At the age of 15, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. With the Cuban pianist Rolando Luna, he created the very original duo “Rolando & Constant” which fuses classical music and jazz. Rolando Luna is a “special” Cuban pianist.
At the age of 15, he joined the Amadeo Roldàn conservatory in Havana and began his career as a pianist at the age of 17 and became the pianist of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club. He plays on the biggest international stages, as well as at the White House in front of Obama and Biden. Since 2019, he has devoted himself to his career as a soloist and to the “all Cuban stars” collective El Comité, of which he is a founding member.
He regularly performs on prestigious international stages as solo, duo or trio piano, considered one of the most creative pianists, composers and arrangers of his generation. After two parts during which the artists will express themselves separately, the finale will offer a four-handed duet by Constant and Rolando which promises beautiful emotions.
If the duo has just recorded a CD to be released in 2025, it will be possible to discover it in a few days in Lavaur.
