“I do not introduce you to Mr. Fernandel : he is the only Frenchman who is more famous than me in the world.” These strong words are those of Charles de Gaulle and can make you proud Vincent Fernandelthe actor’s grandson, who will come to present two films by his grandfather, Saturday November 16, at the Confluences cinema of Varennes-sur-Seinenear Montereau.
An essential figure in the history of French cinema, Fernandel (1903-1971) was one of the most popular actors of his time and occupied the top of the bill with equal success for almost forty years. Half a century after his death, his memory remains intact and several of his cinema characters (Don Camillo, Iréné the “Schpountz”, and even Ignace) are part of thecollective imagination.
“Continue to keep the memory of your grandfather alive”
Saturday, November 16, the Montereau film club will pay tribute to him by screening two of his legendary films: The cow and the prisoner (Verneuil, 1959), at 4:30 p.m., then Father’s Journey (La Patellière, 1966), at 9 p.m.: “The idea of a tribute emerged in this spirit of necessary transmission, with the desire to see the films again on the big screen,” explains Julien Morvanpresident of the film club.
The two sessions will be presented by Vincent Fernandel, who will also participate in an exchange with the public at the end of each screening.
“I am from the same generation as Vincent Fernandel, we met in Paris and we hit it off very quickly. He did not know his grandfather (Vincent Fernandel was born in 1983, editor’s note), but he lived in his memory with his father, Franck Fernandelthe son of Fernandel, himself a famous singer and actor. Inviting him to the film club was obvious. Vincent does not live in nostalgia for the past and does not use his prestigious surname as a foil. However, he is aware of the need to continue to bring the memory of your grandfather to life », concludes Julien Morvan.
