Wicked dolls: embarrassing printing error for Mattel

Toy giant Mattel “deeply” regrets an error in the packaging of its dolls featuring the film Wickedwhich mistakenly directs toy buyers to a pornographic website.

The error gained attention on social media over the weekend. Many users have shared photos of the URL address printed on the back of the boxes of the special edition dolls, which feature characters from the film adaptation of Wickedwhich hits theaters later this month.

But instead of linking to Universal Pictures’ official WickedMovie.com page, the listed website leads to an adult movie site that requires consumers to be over 18 to access.

In a statement sent to The Associated Press, Mattel said it was “informed of a printing error on the packaging of Mattel’s Wicked Collection dolls,” which the company said are primarily sold in the United States. -United.

“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate steps to remedy it,” the company added.

Mattel did not confirm whether these measures included removing unsold products with the incorrect link from stores. But Monday morning, at least some of these dolls Wicked appeared to be no longer available or on reserve on sites like Amazon, Target and Mattel.

In the meantime, the company is advising consumers who already own the dolls to throw away their packaging or hide the link — and to contact Mattel customer service for more information.

Mattel unveiled its special collection Wicked earlier this year. Last July, an ad shared on Instagram showed Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who play Elphaba and Glinda in the upcoming Universal Pictures film, seeing the line’s singing dolls for the first time.

The popular Broadway musical was split into two parts for its film adaptation. The first chapter of Wicked will be released in theaters on November 22, while the second part is scheduled for fall 2025.
